DO HUMAN ECONOMIC SYSTEMS, SETTLEMENT PATTERNS & POPULATION TRENDS BRING GOOD OR BAD IMPACTS TO THE PHYSICAL WORLD?
Our economy has grown much bigger than we thought, Industries have grown and everything is now advanced. But most of our innovations and inventions have brought bad impacts to the environment. But the real question is why? Why do these life events happen? In this essay many questions will be answered.
So, the thing is what is Geography? Geography is the study of earth’s surfaces and all the things around the earth. There are three types of geography, physical geography, environmental geography and population geography. Physical geography is the study of earth’s features it is also based on sea, land and also the atmosphere around us. Population geography is the study of the way people live. Environmental geography is the study of all the living things on the planet. All the 3 types of geography are connected to each other because the all impact the earth/ environment. Tools of geography support geography. No tool of geography can be harmful to the physical world whatsoever.
Settlements are also related to Geography. A settlement is where people stay and live. Settlements may have impact on the space of the environment. Factories can affect the place where a settlement is placed. The function of a settlement is to provide homes for people. Hamlets are places where only a small group of homes settle. There are unlikely to be many facilities. Villages are larger than hamlets and have more functions such as some shops, a post office and etc. villages can have hundred to thousand people. A town can contain about ten thousand people. Towns have loads of functions such as shopping centers. A city has many specialized functions such as universities, hospitals and sport stadiums.
Economic activities have impact on the environment. There are 4 types of economic activities, primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. Primary economic activity is the way we make money to survive, a job. Secondary economic activity is taking the raw material and making something that can be produce. A tertiary economic activity is the service industry. A quaternary economic activity is the way we can improve the service industry. Primary economic activities can impact the physical world because of the lack of raw materials. The changes in economic activities are that before we did not use too much raw material but these days we are greedy for raw material.
Natural resources don’t have bad impacts on the environment unless the natural resource has been turned into a product.one issue involving natural resources is over consumption, in Australia this issue has happened. The second issue is that we damage the environment because we mine for minerals; we remove huge amounts of soil each year. The third issue is unsustainable logging out of forests. Logging destroys forests.
When we manufacture products we need to be aware on the impacts that it ha on people and the environment. Some products are good and some are bad. Cigars are bad products because the cigars produce smoke and smoke brings air pollution. Air pollution is the most likely to destroy the physical world, because air pollution is very difficult to contain. A change in climate is a major contributing factor is air pollution.
Industrialization is the transition to a new manufacturing process. Industrialization can impact the physical world positively. The positive impacts are the creation of factories makes more jobs, gives the ability to transport raw materials, and urbanization. The negative impacts are over crowding and health problems. Human environment interactions involve pollution and there are five types of pollution such as, air pollution, noise pollution, visual pollution, water pollution and smell pollution. Air pollution is a type of pollution caused by the smoke or dirty air mixing in with the normal air creates air pollution. Noise pollution is when too much noise. Visual pollution is when something looks too unpleasant. Water pollution is created when the water becomes dirty. Smell pollution is created when things don’t smell good.
We can prevent all the bad impacts happening. We should not cut too much tree wood. We can prevent pollution by one, use less vehicles that run on fossil fuels such as, private cars and motorbikes it will be much better if we can use the public transportation and walk for short distances (Air pollution). Noise pollution can be damaging to health. One way to stop noise pollution is to turn of your electronics when they are not in use. Usually they make noise when they are not in use.
Human dependency is very important. Humans depend on things that are very important. In the rainforest the entire making has been done by hand. In the city the natural resource has been processed. Before humans used to rely on nature and crops. These days the technology has been improved and we have cars and gadgets to make a living.
In conclusion, some things can bring bad impacts and some things can bring good impacts. Human geography, population geography and environmental geography are connected because they all have some type of impact on the world.
